Verses 15-26 GROUP_1557 79.15-26
15
هَلْ أتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَى
Have you heard the story of Moses?
16
إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
His Lord called out to him by the sacred valley of Tuwa:
17
اذْهَبْ إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَى
[saying], ‘Go to Pharaoh, he has exceeded all bounds,
18
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَى أَن تَزَكَّى
and say, “Will you reform yourself?
19
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَى
Do you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you should fear Him?”’
20
فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَى
Moses showed him the great sign,
21
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَى
but he denied it and refused [the faith].
22
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَى
Then he quickly turned his back.
23
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَى
And he summoned all his people,
24
فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَى
and proclaimed, ‘I am your supreme Lord,’
25
فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَى
but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present:
26
إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَى
surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing.

Commentary
(a) The life of Pharaoh and other deniers of the truth like him provides proof of the fact that one who denies realities is ultimately punished for it. These historical examples are enough to teach man a lesson. But an instructive event is such only to one who has a prudent mentality, and who examines an action from the viewpoint of its end-result and not just in relation to its beginning.
